On September 13-17, 2021, the most significant European conference in the field of machine learning - the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases was held in the virtual form in Bilbao, Spain. Among over 1000 participants, the largest group from Poland was a group of scientists from the Institute of Computing Science and students of the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications of the Poznan University of Technology (9 participants).
Two teams of researchers from the Poznań University of Technology (K. Dembczyński. M. Wydmuch with foreign co-authors and P. Janiszewski, M. Lango, J. Stefanowski) were the only Polish researchers to present their articles at the main sessions of the conference. Moreover, prof. J. Stefanowski together with graduate students K. Pluciński and M. Naklicka presented two works at thematic workshops devoted to Explanaible AI and Learning from Imbalanced Data.
The participation of the above research team, including graduate students, is also associated with the participation in the European research network TAILOR as part of the European project EU-funded ICT-48 Network of Research Excellence Centres providing the scientific foundations for Trustworthy AI in Europe - as the only selected partner from Poland. Thanks to the AI-TECH program implemented at the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications, an interested group of students of the Artificial Intelligence master's specialization could simultaneously participate in the ECML PKDD 2021 conference.
Moreover, the scientists from the Institute of Computing Science have been for many years the main and the largest group of Polish researchers participating in prestigious international scientific conferences in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
